You are in school, or you are at the office, and you’re going through life’s motions, day after day, it’s just a blur in your mind. Do you ever take the time to ask yourself:
Am I going in the right direction?
You might be as successful as you want climbing the ladder but what if when you reach the top you realise that the ladder is leaning on the wrong wall?
All you need to do to gain some clarity in life is to ask yourself these two questions:
What’s most important to me in life?
Choose what matters to you, in life, in your relationships, in your career, in your future. Find your North Star, your ultimate goal, to always keep you on the correct course.
Are my actions aligned with those values?
If you are feeling overwhelmed and burnt-out most of the time, maybe it’s not because you are doing too much but because you are doing too little of the things that really matter to you, that really make you come alive.
Taking care of yourself is paramount for a balanced existence.
Self-care is not selfish
Did you know that chronic stress shrinks your brain? When you are stressed your brain gets smaller and gets into a fight or flight mode. That is not an ideal state to study, to start a business, or to have a meaningful relationship.
You create your habits and then your habits create you.
What can you do to take care of yourself better, you ask. Start by revisiting your habits. Your habits create you, every day we get shaped by them. But we have the power to construct our habits first. You need to first choose to forge the habit of exercising, getting good sleep, meditating, eating healthy and so on but, once in place, it will seamlessly transform you into a better person.
Contributing is a wonderful way to relieve stress. How can you contribute in your own way, what talents and treasure do you have to offer to make a difference?
Volunteer what you have to give.
It is a proven antidote to stress and to fear, as well as other physical benefits. Chronic fear makes you more susceptible to cold, diseases and viruses. There is a whole science behind it, called psychoneuroimmunology.
The future belongs to the creators. It’s true, AI is taking over more areas and jobs than before, but their capability is limited. Instead human potential is truly limitless. The sky isn’t the limit to our creativity and imagination, only our mind is, and we can continuously expand it.
Did you know that Shakespeare wrote some of his masterpieces during the London great plague? Similarly, Isaac Newton was sitting under a tree when an apple fell on his head because the plague had forced the London university closed.
The Coronavirus pandemic has forced us in isolation too.
What can you create?
Music, writing, an invention, a mural for your kids room, the next great adventure, …. You fill in the blank!
Remember, your future belongs to you, be a creator.
