In today’s society, we have more access to unhealthy food choices, time constraints and families not making time to sit down and eat nutritious meals together. These are a few of the reasons our teenagers are not eating enough fruit and veggies. In NSW, close to 60% of teens do not eat the recommended daily amount of fruit and vegetables.

Research has shown that availability in the home has been associated with higher intakes of fruits and vegetables.  Keep a variety of fruits and vegetables in plain view. Keep a bowl of fresh fruit on the table. Try and eat a few healthy meals together each week as a family. Be a good role model for your teen as they will adopt your eating habits. Encourage your teen to eat breakfast every morning.

Help teens build a positive body image. Make positive comments about your teen’s efforts toward healthy behaviors.
